Change Healthcare (“CHC”), part of Optum, issued a Notice of Data Breach (“Notice”) to individuals affected by their cybersecurity incident that occurred on February 17 and 21, 2024 which impacted the ability of pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and many healthcare providers nationwide to process prescriptions through patients’ insurance.

A few of our members received the Notice. The following summary is informational because HWMG does not have a relationship with CHC. The Notice includes CHC’s offer of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services for two years.

Change Healthcare Cyberattack

On February 21, 2024, CHC became aware of deployment of ransomware in its computer system. Optum and CHC took immediate action by disconnecting and turning off their systems to prevent further impact, conducted an investigation, and called law enforcement. Their security team worked with top security experts to address the matter.

On March 13, 2024, CHC received a dataset of exfiltrated files that was deemed safe to investigate. On July 29, 2024, CHC began mailing written notices to individuals affected by the incident.
